Lesson 8.1: Jesus' Triumphal Entry

Lesson 8.1: Jesus' Triumphal Entry
Matthew 21:1-17 ; Mark 11: 1-11;
Luke 19:28-44; John 12: 12-19

This week we will step out of our study through the Old Testament and briefly turn our attention to the last week of Jesus’ earthly ministry. We start with a look at the triumphal entry, when Jesus entered Jerusalem on a donkey. The crowds that day welcomed Him as King, but they didn’t really understand what kind of King He was.

Jesus was the Messiah spoken about by the prophet Zechariah: “Look, your King is coming to you; He is righteous and victorious, humble and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey” (Zechariah 9:9). One day, Jesus will return to earth on a white horse as King over everything. (Revelation 19:11)

Help your kids see that Jesus was first the suffering servant when He came to earth the first time, but when He returns, He will be the conquering King.

Lesson 7.2: The Bronze Snake

Lesson 7.2: The Bronze Snake
Numbers 20:1-20; 21:4-9
This week we will experience the people of Israel grumbling to God in the wilderness. God punished them for their sin by sending poisonous snakes to bite the people. However, God also provided a way to be healed. He told Moses to place a bronze snake on a pole and whenever someone looked at it, they would live.
Because of our sin, we face a huge problem: we are separated from God. We deserve to die, but anyone who looks to Jesus on the cross and trusts in Him will live forever with God.
Help your children see that God takes sin seriously, but He also graciously provided a solution for sin: Jesus.

Lesson 7.1 Joshua and Claeb

Unit 7.1  Joshua and Caleb

Numbers 13:1- 14:38

As we continue our journey through Old Testament this week, the people of Israel have arrived at the promised land and they send spies into the land to scout it out. The spies return, reporting that the land is indeed good, but the people are too strong so they should not try to conquer it. Only Joshua and Caleb trust God’s plan.

Because of their lack of trust, God sends the people into the wilderness for that generation to die off so that the next generation could enter the land. God planned for Joshua to lead the next generation of Israelites into the promised land. Joshua was not perfect, but His faithfulness reminds us of Jesus, who is perfect. Jesus obeyed the Father and trusted His plan to save people from their sins.

Help your children to see how vital our total trust in God is, because that is an essential component of the gospel.
