Lesson 10.6 David Sinned and was Restored

Lesson 10.6
David Sinned and was Restored
2 Samuel 11:1 - 12:14; Psalms 51

This week are going to learn about God’s unending forgiveness that David experienced and we can too because of Jesus. David sinned against God by taking Bathsheba away from Uriah and having Uriah killed in combat, but when God sent Nathan to confront him about his sin, David repented and God forgave him. David’s sin came with a price though, as sin always does.

In the same way, we can receive God’s forgiveness too because God sent His Son, Jesus, to pay the price for our sin. Jesus died the death we deserve so that we could be made right with God.

Help your kids understand that sin is serious and that God has not promised to spare us from its consequences. At the same time, point out the love, mercy, and grace of God that we experience because of Jesus and how in Jesus we have been completely forgiven of all our sin.

Lesson 10.5 God made a covenant with David

Lesson 10.5
God Made Covenant with David
2 Samuel 7

We continue the big story of the Bible this week with David recognizing that he was living in a wood-paneled palace while the ark was still in a tent. David wanted to build a temple for God, but God did not want David to build it. Instead, God told David that his son would build the temple, but He made a covenant with David and promised that every future king of Israel would come from David’s family.

God kept His promise by sending His Son, Jesus, to be one of David’s descendants. Jesus is our King who will never die; He will rule over God’s people forever.

Help your kids see that God’s promise to David to provide Jesus can be traced all the way back to God’s promise to Adam and Eve and Abraham in Genesis. Remind them that God had promised from the beginning that He was going to provide a Rescuer to break the power of sin and death and that the Rescuer is Jesus.
